COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

All of the events start and finish on the Gold Coast Cycle Centre criterium track. Each event begins with a section on the track itself before delving in to the ‘haunted’ Nerang National Park forest. Please note; courses may be subject to change as the event approaches; we will keep you informed and all courses will be well marked, marshalled and each event will have a tail walker (or two); to ensure everyone gets home!

WILD EARTH ‘WOLF PACK PROWL’ - The 2.5km junior event runs a short section of the criterium track, enters the National Park and turns left and up an undulating hill, then turns right at the junction and onto the Casuarina Grove Circuit. The participants run the western section of the Casuarina Grove Circuit before linking on to the Optional Loop). When emerging from this 800m section, runners will be directed straight back down to rejoin the Crit track, once there, following the same path back to the start/finish arch. Note: there will be some Halloween characters lurking in the bush; but nothing too scary for the littlies.

RUN RESILIENCE ‘ZOMBIE SHUFFLE’ - The 6km event completes runs a short section of the criterium track, enters the National Park and turns left and up an undulating hill, then turns right at the trailhead and onto the Casuarina Grove Circuit. The participants run the western section of the Casuarina Grove Circuit before continuing onto the Optional Loop (800m) and then taking a hard left-hand turn onto the new circuit (follow the Long Loop signs). The loop gradually rises, but never too steeply thanks to the switchbacks, before popping up out on the service road at the crest of the course, where the drink station will be located.
Runners will then return to the new single-track which drops down back to the bottom of the valley, runners will return to the dirt road with a small creek crossing, then making a left turn back onto the criterium track and heading straight back to the start/finish arch!
This event will be run in the dark; so all competitors will be required to wear or carry a torch. There will be a greater element of ‘scare’ in the woods for this event, so this is more suited to older children and adults.

BROOKS ‘HAUNTED HILL HUSTLE’ - The 12km eventt follows the same route as the 6km event; completing a short section of the criterium track, before entering the National Park and turning left and up an undulating hill, then turns right at the trailhead and onto the Casuarina Grove Circuit.
Runners will then return to the new single-track which drops down back to the bottom of the valley, before returning to the dirt road with a small creek crossing, then continuing straight back up the dirt road parallel with the criterium track before repeating the entire loop for a second time. Upon returning to bottom of the course, runners make a left turn back onto the criterium track and head straight back to the start/finish arch!
This event will be run in the dark; so all competitors will be required to wear or carry a torch. The event will have a higher presence of ‘things that go bump (howl, screech, etc.) in the night out on course, so is aimed at teens and adults.
